As much as I love to learn I’ve realized being in this SOMD that my mind really can only take so much information before I don’t know what to do with it. This last 2 weeks has been crazy for me! From going to San Francisco learning a ton there about ministry, to camping in Ojai almost freezing to death, and then back home to L.A for another week of teaching about communication, I think my mind ran out of learning space! In the midst of all this, a theme I feel like God has been highlighting in my journey is the importance of silence and being still.
While camping we had time and space to literally just be and sit and not even try to figure out our problems but to just be still and know that God is God and he is with us. I valued that time so much because it is exactly what I needed. I constantly am trying to figure out the things in my life that are unknown, because honestly I just want to know! I was reminded this week of Isaiah 55:8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts neither are your ways my ways declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
As much as I want to know the unknown things, I really don’t want to know because then I wouldn’t need God, I wouldn’t get to be on this adventure of Faith that God has me walking on.
Our speaker was so awesome this week and much of what He said I for sure learned a ton from, but one of my favorite things he taught us was about being committed vs. being involved. It challenged me in so many areas of my life such as what direction I take in life, my relationship with God and with others, and in every day decisions. Am I really committed in what I am doing or am I just involved in it?
Joseph, our speaker, was sharing how you have to get involved in something in order to be committed to that thing, but if you want to grow in skill, in character and see some sort of fruit then you have to get committed. The definition of committed is a feeling of dedication and loyalty to a certain cause, activity or job, being wholeheartedly dedicated. After hearing this I examined areas of my life that I possibly might be involved in and I saw that some of them I really need to commit myself to if I truly want to see a difference made.
When God sees that we are wholeheartedly committed to something he is going to give us eyes to see things we never thought we would ever see, and he is going to give us ears to hear what only he can say to us, and He will bring us to places we never imagined we could go. That is the kind of life I want to live, not one that is just involved but I want to live a life committed. Committed to relationship, committed to the passions God has placed in my heart, and above all committed to following God wherever He leads me.
