This week I have still been pretty hung up on all that I learned the week before from Kenny Pevvy. Not to say I didn’t learn a ton this week, though God has been reminding me of the truth that he spoke to me the week before.
Something specifically that continues to stand out to me is when Kenny said, “Sometimes you have to choose to leave everyone in the boat because you want to walk on the water”. Referring to when peter walked on water in the bible he was making it applicable to our own lives, in a way that I can relate to right now.
There are points in our lives where we have to choose to step out in faith and more than anything that step is motivated by our desire to see the mystery of Christ revealed in our own lives. There are so many decisions we have to make in life, big and small, and we have to continue to ask ourselves if we are serious about what we are doing or not. Are we going to let the people in the boat prevent us from walking on the water? Maybe those people can represent things like fear, doubt, uncertainty, security, control, or perfection.
Peter took his first step on water because he had his eyes fixed on Jesus, so much so to the point where the atmosphere around him wasn’t able to affect the atmosphere of peace within him which only came from fixing his gaze on Jesus. That’s another thing Kenny taught us, that the atmosphere within us is capable of being so much stronger than the atmosphere we are immersed in, so the outside can’t shift the inside. It’s in that moment when we shift our gaze away from God that the atmosphere causes us to waver in our belief and in our faith.
Having an inward atmosphere unwavered by the outer begins in the secret place with God, in the place of intimacy with him that no one else is a part of. When the deepest part of our being cries out to the deepest part of the heart of God that is where intimacy is experienced. When our hunger and thirst for God is the longing of our hearts, that’s when we see God.
In my life currently big decisions are being made, paths are going to be walked on soon and it is scary. I do have people in my boat like doubt, fear, and uncertainty that are trying to cloud my view from Jesus calling me forward. Recently I’ve allowed those things to get me down, and they cause me to fear my future, but God is calling me to a mindset where I no longer fear my future, because no matter where I walk I continue to hunger and thirst for God, I continue to receive the peace and the Joy of living that He offers me as I fix my gaze on him.
